Tobias Klein puts motion into a "MASK"
Tobias Klein's latest combines three-dimensional printing & projections with one of the oldest art forms, the mask. An interactive installation, MASK displays a 3-D printed guise whose color morphs and shifts based on the reagents and projections placed upon it. Based off of the narrative of Chinese opera, the mask conveys different emotions and stories through the alterations of its colors. By giving a static image (a mask) unfixed expression, the work illustrates the emerging dynamics between electronic media and classic art, and how mixing both draws new sets of borders and paradigms in contemporary design.
